the Trojan Horse
The Trojan Horse is known mostly as a myth for Greek people and children. But the
event did happen in real life. It all started with a war between the Greeks and the Trojans. You will learn more about the war in the next page. The time of the war was around 1994-1984 BC. The Greeks needed a way to enter the gates of Troy to rescue their princess . A lot of ideas were considered but the one that seemed best was made by the top Greek warrior Odysseus . In ancient times if you wanted peace or admitted defeat you gave your opponent a gift. But Odysseus said that they could use a wooden 180 foot horse and put people in there while being transported. Then once they reached the Troy gates (Troy is located in present day Turkey) if the night was quiet enough they could sneak through the gates, pass the Trojan guards, and be able to rescue their princess. After that everyone thought Odysseus was a genius and that that was such a original idea. But after that they had to think really hard about the disadvantages that came to them. How will they get their soldiers on a 180 foot wooden horse ? How will they move or transport the Trojan Horse ? And will the decoy work ? Well Odysseus had those questions already in mind. He said it is common sense when you need to reach something high you just use a ladder to get up there. He also said the proper way to transport the horse was to have around 1000 people pull the front of the Trojan Horse with ropes, and to have people push the horse on the back side. Odysseus had great confidence with his plan and guaranteed his friends the Trojan Horse will work. The thought process was finally over with and it was time to start the plan. They first had to build the Trojan Horse. No one really knows today how long it took for the horse to be built. Then they gathered all their soldiers which were around 30 - 40 people. After they all got in the horse it was time to move the horse. It took them about 10 years to finally reach the Troy Gates. During the night Odysseus other soldiers got out of the Trojan Horse and sneaked through the gates. They first had to kill the guards so that they didn't get all killed by Troy's soldiers. Then they finally reached to the building which their princess was in from being kidnapped. After long walking they finally found their princess and the Greeks throw a party for them. The Trojan Horse was one of the main causes of the fall of Troy.
